Q:  Is it Legal?

Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the LORD’S sake. – 1 Peter 2:13

A: It is illegal to sell raw (unpasteurized) milk in the state of Colorado. However, it is legal and practical to purchase a share into a goat (or cow) herd. As a shareholder you own a portion of that herd. Therefore you would be entitled to a percentage of milk collected in a week.

Q: How Do You Milk the Goats?

A righteous man regards the life of his animal. – Proverbs 12:10

A:  Prior to milking, the doe is put into a milking stanchion. She is given her grain ration which is soy and corn free. While she enjoys her grain, her udder and teats are cleaned with a warm water solution of a non-toxic mild soap and a natural antibacterial essential oil (Tea Tree). We then hand milk. The milk is then filtered into glass jars and quickly put into an ice bath to reduce the temperature and ensure delicious milk. It its stored in a 37 degree fridge, (dedicated to milk) until pickup. All the equipment we use is both hand washed and put through the dishwasher.

Q: How do I get my milk?

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interest of others. – Philippians 2:3-4

If you should purchase a share, there are two options for collecting your milk. The first is to pick up your milk here at the ranch. We ask that you schedule a time in advance that for the most part will be consistent week to week. The second option is to schedule in advance a drop off point that is comfortable and reasonable for both of us. You will need to bring a cooler and ice or ice packs to keep your milk properly cooled during transportation. If for some reason you are unable to pick up your milk just let me know. I will be happy to keep it frozen for you. On your scheduled pick up day you could collect three frozen and one unfrozen portion of your milk, another suggestion for those of you who may only want to make one trip per month.
